Interview with srs[razer]-DaBoO

Full name: Patrick Bolleboom

Zen: Do you have any education? Or any occupation at the moment?

Daboo: I got my sport and moving education. And I work fulltime, I work at a fitness gym as a personal fitness trainer, as well as giving judo jiu jitsu selfdefence and give spinning lessons :)

Zen: Interesting :) How long time have you been involved in judo and martial arts?

Daboo: Haha way back when I still were wearing diapers and was 3 years old, that's when I started with my judo. And I was about 8 years when i start with the jiu jitsu.

Zen: 3 years? :) That mean your parents also were into it? Have you particiapted in any bigger martial events competitions?

Daboo: Hehe it's good that you ask as I am 4 times National Champion; 2 times European Champion and 1 time bronze medal in World Championships but my parents didnt do any martial art sport.

Zen: Ok, so you're professional black belt with other words :) How much time you spend on this occupation, it takes up most of your days?

Daboo: I'm black belt judo, jiu jitsu and karate. And yes I spend alot of time on my sport, but the time that I work at my job are also counted as training hours, but i train like 10/15 hours a week.

Zen: That is well disciplinated :)

GENERAL GAMING QUESTIONS:

Zen: What was the first RTS-game you played?

Daboo: Warcraft 2! It was soooo awesome!

Zen: :) Yes, legendary. This mean you also played the following Blizzard games, Starcraft 1 and Warcraft 3?

Daboo: That's correct, I played Starcraft and Broodwar for a really long time, I think about 6-7 years and then switched to Warcraft TFT. Never playd RoC though.

Zen: I see, so you consider yourself more of a past Starcraft 1 player than a past Warcraft 3 player in other words?

Daboo: You can definitely say that, but because I was older when I played WC3 I was better because you can think more about your "gamestyle" even as I was in the nation team B of holland with sc bw

Zen: Nice, and which other clans in the past have you been involved in?

Daboo: Not really that special clans or known clans, but in Broodwar I was in the dutch clan sW- and clan [xP] and the english clan vDp] and in Warcraft TFT I was in mostly american clans like uPro excl and the dutch clan twr.

Zen: Ok, what past achievements do you have, which events have you participated in?

Daboo: Haha, i dont know that, with the previous teams we were 1st in some tournaments in usa etc, but I was never attenting to a major LAN event before though.

Zen: Ok so its an exciting step to join SRS you'd say? A big first climb in your career?

What is the biggest difference of the gaming situation when being in a clan than not being in one, it will require more time and discipline from you?

Daboo: Yes, I'm really excited and very happy that they give me this chance to play for them. The big difference would be that you don't only play for yourself anymore but instead you have a team beside you that helps you and cheer for you. And I like being in a team to analyze games together, because everyone is different and think different and we are all trying to work our self up together.

Zen: Yeah that sounds alot more satisfying.
Which clans do you consider to be having the finest status in SC2 at the moment?

Daboo: serious gaming ofcourse :) But I think eG team liquid and Mouz really got some pretty sick line ups!

Zen: What do you think of serious gamings chances to compete in the SC2 scene and the leagues? What leagues do you think they will compete in?

Daboo: I think in the start we need to play much events to get more known and recognised in the SC2 scene and if it goes really good we can be more selective in what events we pick.

CLOSER STARCRAFT 2 QUESTIONS:

Zen: Which race is the strongest? And which is the weakest?

Daboo: This is really a hard question because every patch can be different, but at this point I think protoss is the strongest because it's the easiest to play and got the most aoe. :) Weakest I believe is zerg because other players can predict what he is going to make because variety of the units are less compared the other races.

Zen: I see. So if protoss require minimum skill, which race you consider to most difficult to play and require most skill?

Daboo: Don't get me wrong, I don't consider protoss minimum skill just more easy to play because of the health and shield of units are really strong but I think zerg need alot more skill because you need to flank much, much more and if you are on the same count of base's as your enemy you will probaly lose, but thats just what I personally think about it ofcourse.

Zen: What is the most efficient strategy in general according to you?

Daboo: I think medic marine maureders is always strong ofc because of the heal and the stimpack and extra life for marines. But I think protoss got the strongest push with immortals sentry zealots because the shield of sentry can easily split armies and roach got 3 range and immortal / sentry got 6/6 I believe and if you will do wall your raoches can't reach them, which makes roaches useless.

Zen: And what more concrete strategy for your race in special, vs each race, protoss, terran and in mirror?

Daboo: Zerg vs Terran is pretty fascinating match up that I love to play alot because I love using banelings vs terran and roach hydra infestor and late game broodlord.

Zerg vs Zerg. I really do love zerglings, if other zerg go zerglings aswell I do fast banelings, and if he goes roaches I got muta / expo

Zerg vs Protoss. I usually fast expands, depends on the map and if I scout 1 gate re 2 gate I dont even make roach warrent and tech fast to hydra and speedlings because hydra got 6 range after range-upgrade and can easily shoot over the forcefield what roaches cant ! It's really important that people struggle with it, they go roach, get forcefield back, and then the roaches can't get close to attack and get raped by sentry's and immortals

Zen: Aha, so what match-up you'd consider to be the easiest win, what race vs what race?

Daboo: For Protoss to win against Zerg, at this moment.

Zen: Ok. Is there any specific balance fixes/nerfs you think, or hope, will be changed in next patch?

Daboo: Yes! I think sentrys need ore and forcefield more expensive ore so that they only can cast 1 forcefield for each sentry. And maybe shield regenerate should be slower.

Zen: When you think about the SC2 interface if we exclude the actual gaming,
the chat-functions, the ladder systems, the lack of LAN/Network games, etc. What do you think is the  biggest problem yet in this area, something you think really need to be fixed?

Daboo: I really love to be in channels and talk with all the people in the same time, and its good to have "clan channels". The ladder is, I think, pretty cool but I'd love to have 1 more rank above platinum though, that would be awesome, but I think that was coming and I think LAN/Network will come. Blizzard will definitely put LAN in because its a huge thing for lan tournaments ;)

Zen: Yeah true. Which is the best element from Warcraft that is missing in Starcraft as you see it?
And which new element in Starcraft 2 is your most favorite, some unit or some gaming function?

Daboo: I really love the queen because it's a key unit in the zerg army, it can heal units/building you can use tumor and you can spawn larves, I think queen is fucking awesome :) And I like that overlords can puke now and that your movement speeds increase ore that other people can't build on it. What I miss from wc3, I dont miss anything, I'm just enjoying the whole new game I think its different from sc bw and diffrent from wc3 and thats why I really love this game. I miss the scream of the demon hunter when he dies :) I really love that !

Zen: Yes, that is the way we love the demon hunter, dead

Daboo: Hahah exactly :)

Zen: So you are you putting all your effort in SC2 instead of Warcraft, or any other game, for now? Are you aiming for a professional career? Or what is your primary goal with Starcraft 2?

Daboo: My whole intension from the start when I picked up SC2 is to become pro. If its going to work I dont know, and I think it can't be known either but it's a path that I really want to walk and signin with SRS gaming is a good start.

Zen: Yeah, so you are practicing alot with your clan mates at moment? Is that the reason why you lost rank #1 to rank #2 these last few days? :)  I mean because you played more cg's with your clan instead of just laddering?

Daboo: The reason I lost rank 1 to rank 2 is that I didnt care that much about ladder and with the ladder reset coming up I dont play it anymore, I think I have more on custom games because I can play with specific people, I'm playing custom game with many really good players so I like it alot but when ladder reset comes im aiming on rank 1 again ofcourse :)

FAVORITE REPLAY:

Zen: Do you happen to have any specific replay or game that you have watched, or played yourself, that is your absolute favorite replay?

Daboo: I usally love my replays that I lose because then I can see specifically what I did wrong and I can learn much from it. I'm really greedy to learn everything from the game like the game vs DeMulisM, I assumed the natural expension was already empty thats why I went to the other expo's but I will never make that expand again, but I'm really happy with my play style though.

Zen: You mean the game on Scrap Station?

Daboo: Yeah the game on scrap station. I played pretty solid but I just skipped the natural because I assumed the expo was empty and I was going for the other expo's because i had him pinned down that game, but I let him in the game but as I already said: that mistake is a 1 timer not going to happen again maybe it was just lack of experience :)
